The US has elected a new president and administration. Donald J. Trump was sworn into office on January 20, 2025 and with that came several sweeping executive orders including the U.S's withdrawal of the Paris Climate Agreement.

What is the Paris Agreement?

Deven's Reflections:

This decision to part ways with the Paris Climate Agreement weakens the global goal to reach lower emissions. As an economic and military superpower, the U.S. has a substantial impact and influence on the rest of the world. It can influence smaller countries' decisions and change the entire global system. Something that aligns with almost every country's goal is making the Earth a more habitable place currently, and for the future. The U.S. has the second-largest amount of greenhouse gas emissions behind China. As a very large contributor to the problem, the U.S. should be trying to cut its own emissions while urging other countries to do the same. The temperature goal was to limit global warming to below 2 °C. Additionally, regarding climate finance, the wealthier nations typically provide financial support to developing countries toward this effort of climate control. The rest of the world will no longer benefit from the U.S.'s financial aid in fighting climate change.
